I decided the choose my own father as my mentor. He has been someone that I have looked up to all my life. He knows more about carpentry then anyone I know, and was very excited to help me when I asked. My father is a well traveled man when it comes to carpentry, cars, and almost anything that is outdoorsy or hands on. He has a ton of knowledge on how things work just from learning how to do things on his own. He is the type of man to do anything and everything himself before calling a professional to help. In 18 years I can maybe recall twice that he has had someone fix something for him because he couldn't. He used all this knowledge throughout the project to help me build the best structure I could. During the process he taught me everything he could, He taught me how to sand boards and how to properly set a nail. He taught me how to sheet metal and cut plywood. He taught me how to think outside the box when it was needed to help complete part of the structure. My father taught me many valuable life skills when it comes to carpentry, and showed me that a degree is worth it so you don't have to be doing construction for the rest of your life. I hope one day to grow up and be someone exactly like him.
